Madrid International Convention Center. Madrid, Spain.
The International Convention Centre is the public contribution to the CTBA urban plan. Located next to four new skyscrapers this municipal complex looks to bring a practically monofunctional urban outline out from its isolation. A public view point on the top floor is added to the fl exible and versatile areas for conventions, events and cultural programmes. The proposal, instead of developing the programme on a horizontal plane, is based on a cylinder with a circular generatrix 20 m above grade. An outer skin of articulated aluminium plates will reflect light during the day, while at night a system of LEDs will materialise the original idea of providing a new Sol (sun) for Madrid. On the interior, a solar protection lattice will filter incident light.
